Why Career Success Is An Inside Job
Some say success is a journey, not a destination.

But what happens when you realise the journey itself needs redefining? My career, much like anyone else’s, has been a rollercoaster of highs, lows, and everything in between — from seeking external validation to discovering my intrinsic worth. Here are the vital lessons I’ve learned in seeking fulfilment over conventional success, re-igniting my passion for work along the way.
💡 Lesson 1: Stop pleasing others
In the relentless pursuit of climbing the corporate ladder, I uncovered a critical truth — success shouldn’t demand compromising your values and authenticity. For years, I moulded myself to fit in, softening edges and muting my true voice for fear of the real (or imagined) consequences. But as burnout and stagnation loomed, I realised that being true to myself was non-negotiable. It’s not about fitting in; it’s about standing out.
💡 Lesson 2: Mute your self-doubt
Self-doubt can be paralysing, hindering your ability to recognise your worth and accomplishments. Throughout my career, I grappled with the fear of not being good enough, shying away from acknowledging my achievements or being in the spotlight. Overcoming this hurdle wasn’t easy, but by embracing my strengths and finding my voice, I began to really believe in my abilities. I realised that championing myself wasn’t self-centered but self-empowerment.
💡 Lesson 3: The power of ‘good enough’
The pursuit of perfection, instilled in us from an early age, can often feel like chasing a mirage — exhausting and ultimately unattainable. Initially, this drive propelled my career, but as the pressure mounted, it began to stifle my growth and those around me. As I started pushing the boundaries of ‘good enough,’ and let go of the need to have all the answers, I found a freedom that allowed me and my team to explore, experiment, and innovate. ‘Good enough’ became not just a benchmark but a launchpad for creativity, growth, and learning.
If you’re feeling stuck, lost, or unfulfilled in your career, remember this — you hold the power to change your path. True success comes from unlocking your authentic potential, banishing self-doubt, and letting go of control.
